Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Hasan Malek will meet with producers, wholesalers and suppliers at his ministry on Tuesday to discuss on reducing the price of goods.

He said the representatives of 50 big companies including supermarket and hypermarket chain operators would attend the meeting to get feedback pertaining to public calls for the price of goods to be lowered following the drop in oil price.

"At the meeting, I will give the actual picture of the situation with regard to price of goods. Perhaps there is also some public misperception of this issue. That is why I need to explain to those attending the upcoming meeting.

"When the price of oil went up the other time, the price of some goods increased while it remained the same or went down for some other goods. I will paint the scenario for the whole country based on certain sectors like food, garments and so on (at the meeting)."

Hasan told this to reporters after attending a gathering with community leaders in the Kuala Pilah parliamentary constituency in Kuala Pilah today.

He said meetings between the ministry and the big companies had always been held but this time, the focus would be more on lowering the price of goods.

"For the meeting, we have made preparations including on ways to reduce prices and the details will be discussed this Tuesday.

"Whatever it is, we want to create a harmonious situation between consumers and traders," he said.

Hasan felt the upcoming meeting would be positive based on their previous meetings.
