YOURSAY ‘If the progressives failed, Pakatan is better off without PAS.’
Leaked tapes underscore deep discord in PAS
Ferdtan: We should be expecting both warring factions to fight tooth and nail for the coming PAS election in June.
This party election is the tipping point of the direction of the party; either to remain a moderate Islamic party to work with the non-Muslims, or to be more ultra-conservative sticking to its own brand of religious politics that exclude the non-Muslims?
Its president Abdul Hadi Awang’s warming to Umno is no secret, though he had never say it aloud or in public for fear of losing support from the party grassroots.
This leaked tape recording (if he was the speaker) shows as clear as daylight that he wants PAS to link up with Umno and break ties with Pakatan.
The other leaked recording of its deputy president Mohamad Sabu, popularly called Mat Sabu, was nothing shocking; the president had turned rogue and obviously there must be a plan to get him out in the coming party election.
If Mat Sabu did not strategise now before the June party election to put himself and his supporters in pole position, then he cannot be called an able leader.
We ask the PAS grassroots one more time; do you want to stick with Pakatan or take PAS to join Umno?
It is not yet two months since the passing away of the party’s spiritual leader, Nik Aziz Nik Mat, who was a staunch Pakatan proponent, yet many PAS leaders including its president Hadi had discarded his legacy to bring back talk of a PAS-Umno unity government.
A famous quote from Nik Aziz is, "We shall never join the enemy. We will not be bitten by the same snake twice.”
He was in PAS when it joined BN in the late 1970s and PAS was expelled from BN two years later after an Emergency was imposed in Kelantan where Umno took the state from PAS rule.
P Dev Anand Pillai: If PAS leaves, it is to their detriment. It doesn't matter if Pakatan doesn't form the next federal government, all it takes is for it to consistently improve itself in Penang and Selangor where most of the non-Malays are concentrated.
A portion of the Kinta Valley and the Setiawan-Dinding area which forms the link between Penang and Selangor must be kept with Pakatan which will at some point of time be a DAP-PKR combination. It will create a platform of new leaders.
And when PAS cooperates with Umno, it will be a rough ride for the other BN coalition partners, i.e. MCA, MIC and Gerakan.
Kangkung: Having PAS in Pakatan is like trying to mix water and oil. PAS will only be happy in the arms of Umno because Umno is also made up of bigots like them.
So, PAS and Umno should get together and form UmnoPAS.
Anonymous_1409399085: Beware the wolf in sheep's clothing and to each religion his own. Look to the future, that's what we have to do.
Enforcing secular aims may be good today but will it be lasting? We human are bombarded with so many things that alone cannot win hearts.
Now is not the time. We are being attacked by media coverage of evil bent on splitting opponents to maintain their rule.
All must look beyond selfish aims or lose the intended 60 percent of votes. Beware the arm on your shoulder.
Anonymous #59879079: A typical primate attitude: "The speaker in the audio clip also said that those who disagreed with this maxim could ‘leave PAS’.”
They can only have a lone existence as they cannot get along with others. Those who don't agree must leave. Actually the best solution is for them to leave this planet.
It’s better for one to leave, than countless others.
Wandering Star: Will the ‘progressives' make this PAS muktamar an auspicious day for PAS - a day remembered for their noble act of slaying the devil?
Old politics of cave men's mentality should be left behind and replaced with progressive minds of the youth with great vision to take PAS to a more promising future.
If the progressives failed, Pakatan is better off without PAS.
Tok Karut: This hudud obsession has driven Hadi and his camp to their political oblivion in what we hope is a new dawn of voters clamouring for secular Malaysia under the federal constitution.
We do not want an Isis/Isil or a failed Muslim majority state with hudud for sure.
Hank Marvin: It is now a free-for-all, just like in Umno and MIC.
And deputy president Mohamad ‘Mat’ Sabu needs to work hard to get rid of Hadi Awang. Otherwise Mat Sabu will vanish from politics.
It is that simple. PAS must be saved from fools like Hadi and his gang.
Hot Khong: My God, I cannot believe a supposedly Islamic party descending to such deplorable antics. Shameful. It makes me feel like PAS is no better than Umno.
A pact of common cause, not common ideology
