PAS legal bureau chief Hanipa Maidin is eager to grill Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in court following the latter's decision to sue party organ Harakah .

Hanipa is representing Harakah managing director Rosli Yaakub.

"We are prepared to accept the suit and face the PM in court. This is a good opportunity to question him (Najib) in court," he told a press conference.

Najib issued a letter of demand to Harakah over an article regarding 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and his step-son Reza Aziz.

Hanipa, who is the MP for Sepang, also noted how he and DAP lawmaker Gobind Singh seldom had the chance to quiz the prime minister in Parliament.

"So, when the PM is prepared to go to court, we are grateful (for the opportunity to question him)," he said.

Gobind, a lawyer by profession, represented DAP's Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua when he was slapped with a letter of demand by Najib on the 1MDB issue last year.

On Feb 26, Najib's lawyers served the letter of demand to Harakah over the article titled " Dana 1MDB biayai syarikat filem Riza Aziz? " (1MDB funds used for Riza Aziz's film company?).

The letter named Harakah managing director Rosli Yaakub - who authored the article - and Harakah chief editor Taufik Yahya.

Najib had demanded a retraction, an apology and a written undertaking never to repeat the alleged defamatory words.

Following this, Najib explained that he was compelled to take legal action against Harakah in order to defend the integrity of his family.

Riza is the son of Rosmah Mansor from her previous marriage with Abdul Aziz Nong Chik.
