YOURSAY ‘Separation of powers no longer exists, look how it’s been cannibalised.’
Trust in our separation of powers, says Agong
Discovery: Your Majesty, I am sorry I cannot agree with you. We appeal to you to please right the wrong committed by the ruling government.
The reputation of the judiciary is in shambles and is a laughing stock to the outside world. Your Highness is the only hope the people have for this very grave matter to be corrected.
Dont Just Talk: Ampun Tuanku, the word trust in our separation of power ceased to exist when the honourable lord president Salleh Abas was sacked in 1988.
The Royal Commission of Inquiry on the VK Lingam tape - ‘it looks like me, talks like me, but is not me’ - further strengthens that perception.
Swipenter: Separation of powers was uprooted in Bolehland by the Mahathir administration and that is why by now hardly anyone believes in the independence of our once proud and envied judiciary.
Of course, there are still some fearless judges who are doing their sacred duties without fear or favour but unfortunately that is not good enough.
Anonymous #19098644: The constitution is clear on the separation of powers. However over the last 35 years due to the many amendments blindly supported by and passed by the mindless BN government, this has been eroded.
This coupled with the blatant interference of the judiciary starting from the Mahathir era when he sacked the five Supreme Court judges and removed the judiciary as equal to the executive branch.
The many instances of blatant interference as evident by the latest series of revelations by retired judges confirm this trend.
Abasir: Perhaps His Royal Highness should try reflecting on why the five-person royal commission appointed by the then Yang di Pertuan Agong and chaired by former Chief Judge of Malaya Haidar Mohamed Noor and which included former Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Steve Shim Lip Kiong, former solicitor-general Zaitun Zawiyah Puteh, historian Khoo Kay Kim and retired Court of Appeal judge Mahadev Shankar (the Lingam Tape RCI) had its recommendations totally ignored by the executive.
He may then understand the reasons the rakyat treat the judiciary and the executive with the contempt they deserve.
Dr Chin Tu Lan: Ampun Tuanku. We, Malaysians, believe and respect the separation of powers among the judiciary, executive and legislature.
But words are not enough to ensure this happens. We need Tuanku’s guidance and action to ensure the rakyat believe in the separation of powers in Malaysia. At present, the trust on the ground is zero.
Kang Kong King: Tuanku, we truly want to believe that there is separation of powers, but the court cases recently and confirmation of a number of incidences involving the judiciary led us to believe that the separation of powers in Malaysia is mere lip service. There is none.
Desperate for Change: Ampun Tuanku. Tuanku is a learned man. Tuanku has been king twice. Tuanku is the person that we rakyat will depend on when the government is doing something wrong.
Here things are so blatantly clear that there is no rule of law. Giving a speech to placate the rakyat has no meaning, Tuanku.
This is 2015. The rakyat no longer can accept these types of speeches. As a king, Tuanku has to have perspective over what is wrong.
Please give Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim a pardon and allow him to do his job to make Malaysia a better place.
J Ng: Separation of power is legally enshrined in our federal constitution. However Malaysians in general do not see it happening, real or perceived.
There is no point asking and telling the public when in reality the separation of power clause in the constitution had been openly abused.
Commentable: Ampun Tuanku, but Tuanku, Malaysians only see a make-believe separation of powers between the legislative, executive and the judiciary.
The notion of separation of powers is sadly an illusion, a mirage that looks like it’s there but it’s not there in reality, even if we use all our five sensory receptors of our body to do so.
Yahoo: In my opinion, the fact that the Agong brought up the matter of separation of powers was to remind those in the legislative, executive and the judiciary authorities to be independent, uphold the laws and to discharge their duties with clear conscience.
His majesty is being too kind to say otherwise.
Smer: Faith and trust does not equate to blind acceptance. We doubt because we must. As William Shakespeare said, "Modest doubt is called the beacon of the wise."
Sax5lek: Ampun Tuanku, beribu-ribu ampun. Please allow your subject to deliver a few sentences:
Your Majesty, I appeal to Your Majesty to exercise Your Majesty's sovereign rights to do justice in Malaysia.
The separation of powers no longer exists, looking at how it has been and will be further cannibalised by the executive.
Ampun Tuanku, Your Majesty is the only one left to make things rights, and I believe it is righteous for you to do it now.
Your Majesty, you are from a different generation of kings, and this subject of yours sincerely believes that Your Majesty understands and treasure those harmonious bygone days.
Ampun Tuanku, we the rakyat wish Your Majesty that can do something righteous in this land. Your Majesty is the only and last hope. Ampun Tuanku.
