Sabah speaker Salleh Said Keruak speculates that the recent blog postings from former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad have an ulterior motive beyond highlighting national issues like 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

The attack against the Umno veteran comes after Najib called Umno members to stand united.

“If you read Mahathir’s postings recently, it is aimed towards bringing down Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak rather than giving constructive criticism. His writings look to strike, and the target is Najib.

“Mahathir’s postings have an agenda - to unseat Najib. His strategy is to create pressure on the prime minister,” Salleh posted in his blog today.

According to Salleh, one instance when this was clear was when Mahathir ( left ) asked for a broader investigation to be done on 1MDB despite Najib stating that the audit department was handling the matter.

Salleh added that Mahathir has also been openly criticising BN and even predicted that the ruling coalition might lose the next election if the 1MDB issue continues.

“I say this because it has not helped resolve the problems in Umno but has made the situation worse. BN and Umno will become weak and this will result in the government being shaken,” Salleh said.

Instead of being fooled by Mahathir’s words, Salleh called on BN and Umno members to be rational in thought and properly analyse the situation at hand first.

“BN and Umno members should be open minded and not wholeheartedly believe the views thrown at them. They should analyse, filter and compare it with the views of others.

“More importantly, they should be wary and watch out for personal attacks. Do not be influenced by the views of only one party,” Salleh warned.

Mahathir has been increasingly critical of Najib ( right ) and his brainchild, 1MDB of late.

He also had questioned how Najib’s stepson could afford luxury properties in New York and fund Hollywood films.

He also said 1MDB should not just be subjected to an audit by the auditor-general but a forensics probe by the police.
