Three days after the Kelantan government passed the amendment to the syariah enactment, BN secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor is still dodging the ruling coalition's stand, accusing PAS's bill of being merely "political hudud".

When quizzed today on BN's stand on PAS’ intention to table a private member’s bill in Parliament to set the state’s hudud laws into action, he skirted the issue, saying Prime Minister cum BN president Najib Abdul Razak will issue an official statement in a day or two.

Tengku Adnan, who is also federal territories minister, when speaking to the media after an event in Putrajaya, however stressed the implementation of PAS’ bill must be in accordance with the federal constitution.

He then trained his guns on DAP and PKR, claiming that they were  using the hudud issue in an attempt to destroy BN.

 

"As a Muslim, we support Allah's punishment. The ones playing are DAP and PKR. They are breaking up but they think they can break BN.

 

"However the BN leadership is different, because we believe in consensus. Our view is simple, all of us agree that we will follow whatever the constitution states," he added.

When pressed if he thought PAS's hudud bill went against the constitution, the minister simply answered, "PAS's hudud is political hudud."

No word from Najib

BN ministers have been evasive about the BN's stand on the Kelantan enactment passed last week, pointing to Najib ( left ) to make a statement.

However it appears there are deep differences in BN component parties on this issue.

 

A Bernama report said that Umno ministers were unanimous in the party's elected representatives in Kelantan which supported the vote for hudud.

 

However, Sin Chew Daily’s report quoting MCA president Liow Tiong Lai gave a different version.

 

The transport minister claimed most of the cabinet members were against hudud because it is against the federal constitution.

Till today the PM has however remained silent on the subject.
