A deputy federal minister from Sarawak says he has no problem with hudud being implemented in Kelantan.

Rural and Regional Development Deputy Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said this when asked of his personal stand on the matter.

"If it is implemented in Kelantan, as far as I'm concerned, that would be a Kelantan matter.

"Personally, I'm fine with that," Nanta ( right ) told reporters at a press conference at the Rural and Regional Development Ministry today.

The Kapit MP had earlier said he preferred to adopt Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem's stand on the issue in general terms.

Last year, the Sarawak chief minister made it clear that hudud, the Islamic penal code, would not be enforced in the East Malaysian state.

"I come from Sarawak and our chief minister has made a stand which I adopt as the Sarawak stand.

"It's very obvious that what he (Adenan) said is that for Sarawak, we will not have hudud," Nanta added.

Asked about Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's silence on the matter, the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) leader said he was not in the loop as to why Najib was keeping silent.

"I don't know, you (should) ask the prime minister himself the question," Nanta said.

Najib has remained silent on the issue, and has not come out with his stand on the matter.

On the other hand, the BN component parties have not kept their silence in opposing hudud.

Several cabinet members, including Nazri Aziz and Nancy Shukri, have stated that it would be impossible for hudud to be implemented in the Malay heartland.

However, opposition parties see a bleak future ahead on the issue, with PKR and DAP continuing to oppose PAS' plan to implement hudud.
