The Kelantan hudud bill infighting has travelled across the South China Sea to Sabah, where the state DAP is pushing for a new coalition without PAS.

Sabah DAP chairperson Jimmy Wong ( left ) said the new coalition should be called Pakatan Rakyat Baru (PRB).

The Kota Kinabalu MP told reporters that Sabah DAP would be proposing the formation of a new coalition with Sabah PKR in a meeting next Monday, taking a cue from DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang's call for a "Save Malaysia" coalition.

"We want to propose this to PKR first and would eventually open this to like-minded parties who want to defend the supremacy of the federal constitution," he said.

"We feel this is necessary because of the impasse in PAS and their insistence on hudud," he added.

However, Sabah PKR leader Darrell Leiking ( right ) claimed to be in the dark about the idea as he was not "privy to the suggestion".

"I am not aware of this at the moment and I will inquire about this with the state leadership," he said.

On Tuesday, DAP had severed ties with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang over the hudud bill but maintained relations with the party.

Whereas Kit Siang mooted a new coalition government comprising lawmakers from both sides of the political divide who wish to defend the constitution.
