Those participating in the Kita Lawan rally tomorrow will be arrested, warned Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar.

He therefore urged the organisers not to proceed with the rally.

"We are monitoring calls made by certain individuals who are calling for the rally.

"If we feel that it would lead to chaos, we would take action," he told a press conference today.

The top cop further claimed that he had received numerous reports from the public that the Kita Lawan rallies had disturbed public order.

“If you want to organise a rally, you can, it is not like you can’t. But you must follow the laws.

“The problem with these people is that they do not want to follow the law, they want to do things the way they want to, that’s why we have to take action.

“Remember that this country has laws and the police. If the police don’t take action... You can think for yourself,” he said.

Commenting on last night’s incident where six people were arrested, Khalid said the police were not involved but had to take action after the group “became violent”.

“They beat up the authorities, that’s why we had to intervene and arrest them.

“Because of this, this group will no longer be allowed to gather because you can see

how they become violent when we let them gather.

“Because they could not control themselves and this had led to chaos, we will not allow them to organise rallies at venues they normally do.”

Last night's incident sees both the police and protesters blaming each other , with both claiming the other of being violent first.

‘IGP has to stop making threats’

In an immediate reaction, Kita Lawan secretariat member Mandeep Singh ( right ) denied that protesters were violent.

“We ask Malaysians to join us in defending the right to assemble, as enshrined under the constitution.

“The IGP has to stop making threats against those who assemble peacefully without any weapons,” he said.

Meanwhile, on another matter, Khalid also responded to DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang who called him “bonkers” and asked whether the police will be after him following his taunt against the top cop.

“The person who said I’m bonkers, he’s the one who is bonkers,” Khalid said simply.
