Six activists including two assemblypersons arrested last night at the Dataran Merdeka ‘ Pecat IGP ’ (Sack IGP) sit-in have been remanded until Monday.

The remand was issued by Kuala Lumpur magistrate Ashraf Rezal Abdul Manan today following an application by the police.

This was confirmed by lawyer Melissa Sasidaran when contacted by Malaysiakini .

"All six have been remanded for four days until Monday. They are presently at the Dang Wangi police station for their statement to be recorded," she said.

The two elected representatives are from Perak: Simpang Pulai assemblyperson Tan Kar Hing ( right in pic ) and Teja assemblyperson Chang Lih Kang ( left in pic ).

Tan and Chang, both from PKR, had also alleged they were assaulted in the process of their arrest.

The six were arrested at about 12.30am in Dataran Merdeka following scuffles with Kuala Lumpur City Hall enforcement officers who tried to remove a banner calling for the removal of Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar.

City Hall had earlier warned the activists to clear the site by midnight after the began the protest sit-in since March 21.

The six are among a group of activists who have organised a week-long, 24-hour sit-in protest at Dataran Merdeka from March 21 until March 28.

Their campaign calls for the IGP's dismissal for the recent spate of arrests involving organisers of Pakatan's ‘Kita Lawan’ rallies every Saturday in Kuala Lumpur.
