As Kuala Lumpur braces itself for another Kita Lawan rally, Batu MP Tian Chua has been detained by the police, PKR reported today.

In a brief message, the party said he is presently at Jinjang police station.

The police was reported to have requested his presence last night but Tian Chua said he will only do so after a town hall meeting the next morning.

"I will cooperate with police investigation as soon as my MP duty is completed in the morning.

"I will present myself at IPD Dang Wangi," Chua tweeted last night in response to the police request.

Police arrested Tian Chua immediately after the town hall meeting with his constituents in Sentul this morning.

According to Sinar Harian , the meeting was also attended by KL Mayor Ahmad Phesal Talib and Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

This is Chua's second arrest in the space of one week.

He was first arrested last Friday over his involvement in the Kita Lawan rally to free jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

However, the courts denied the police application for remand and he was freed the next day.

This week, however, the police have succeeded in securing remand for PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli and activist Hishamuddin Rais , both of whom were detained yesterday in what has been a growing crackdown on dissent over the past month.

According to PKR's tweet, both have been remanded for three days.

Arrests an attempt to thwart Kita Lawan

Meanwhile, PKR information chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh ( below ) condemned the overnight sweep in what appeared to be an attempt to thwart the Kita Lawan rally today.

"It is clear the latest arrests is a form of preventive detention to block calls for change and voices speaking against abuses through rallies and peaceful demonstrations," he said in a statement today.

All three nabbed leaders were to lead the rally from various points in Kuala Lumpur.

Rafizi was to lead protesters from Masjid Jamek while Tian Chua and Mohamad Sabu were supposed to take position at Dataran Merdeka and PAS headquarters respectively.

Despite their arrests, the protest is still going ahead.

From the three gathering points, protesters will then march to Sogo.

There are also plans to march to Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) after that, where a wedding reception for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's daughter Nooryana Najwa is being held.

However, other protesters, such as those from PKR, have insisted that it will only focus on Sogo.
