PARLIAMENT A heated exchange erupted in Parliament over the Kita Lawan rallies, with Umno lawmaker Bung Mohtar Radin saying in some countries, the cops would have whipped out their guns.

The Kinabatangan MP uttered this when he locked horns with PKR's G Manivanan, who is the MP for Kapar.

Bung flayed the opposition over their criticism against the police and crackdown on opposition leaders and activists.

He said the opposition was fortunate that the police in Malaysia did not resort to using arms to quell the protests.

"The opposition here always makes trouble with their rallies but when the police take action against them, they claim the police are cruel and abusing their power.

"If you are in another country, the police during their enforcement would have pointed a gun to your head," he yelled.

Angered by this, Manivannan asked deputy speaker Ronald Kiandee to reprimand Bung for insulting MPs.

Continuing his tirade, the Umno lawmaker said the situation in Malaysia is more relaxed and even Singapore does not allow such leeway for the opposition.

"Look at Singapore, the person who criticised Lee Kuan Yew has already been arrested," he said with regard to the detention of a teenager who uploaded a video lampooning the republic’s founding father, who passed away last week.

Bung also dismissed the Kita Lawan rallies as "pointless".

"Just because the judiciary does not side you, you go around saying you want to fight against the judges and the legal system.

"You also say the judges have been possessed by demons.

"What are all these demonstrations and provocations for? There is no point," he said in reference to the conviction and imprisonment of opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.
