Perkasa Youth wants Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak out for pushing policies which sideline his own race.

"We believe former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's criticism is justified and it's time for things to come to an end.

"Everything that starts has to end. Sacrifice for the sake of religion, race and the nation," Youth chief Irwan Fahmi Ideris said in a statement.

Irwan said this while expressing support for Mahathir, who has launched broadsides against Najib over the past week.

"We have seen Malays sidelined and rights pawned, and yet Najib continues with his rhythm of awarding privileges to races which did not vote for (BN) in the last general election.

"Don't be a PM who destroys your own race, Najib," he added.

Although Irwan (right) did not specify, Perkasa reportedly thwarted the government's plans to dismantle race-based policies in the National Economic Model.

The late economist Zainal Aznam Mohd Yusof told a forum in 2011 that Perkasa and other right-wing groups were up in arms over the NEM's rejection of 30 percent bumiputera equity and the proposal for an equal opportunities commission.

Zainal was a member of the National Economic Advisory Council (NEAC), which drafted the NEM.

Zainal said the groups accused the NEAC of lacking "roh Melayu" (the Malay spirit), leading to a watered-down second version of the NEM.

'Criticise privately, praise publicly'

In a separate statement on the heightening Mahathir-Najib rift, Puteri Umno chief Mas Ermieyati Samsuddin said it is better for disagreements be aired in a private forum.

"We believe it is more polite if criticism against the administration is done through internal channels, while praises be made publicly.

"Each party member has their views on the issues raised by Mahathir (but) our final objective must be to ensure we are strong and in power after the 14th general election and forever," she said in a statement.

Mahathir had among others asked who ordered the killing of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu, for which police commandos assigned as Najib's bodyguards were convicted.

Mahathir also questioned the debt-laden 1Malaysia Development Bhd, which board of advisors is chaired by Najib and the goods and services tax.

"The Altantuya case has long been resolved so there is no need to raise it again, but the government must give more explanations on 1MDB.

"This is especially for the youths, so their questions can be easily rebutted and not be turned into a means to slam the government," she said.
