Mukhriz may have to lose battle to win war
YOURSAY ‘He has to decide if it’s best to please his father or his leader.’
Is Najib holding Mukhriz hostage?
Not Smart: Kedah MB Mukhriz Mahathir, this is not a difficult decision for you to make. Just refer to your father, former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad's past record. He was expelled from Umno and eventually became the country’s longest-serving premier.
This may happen to you as well. You lose some and win some. It may be akin taking one step backwards and later making 10 steps forward. Also remember that there is the silent majority watching the situation earnestly.
Kim Quek: It is an undeniable fact that there has been gross mismanagement and massive frauds in 1MDB resulting in it incurring a mind-boggling debt of close to RM50 billion.
It is also common knowledge that there has been heinous injustice in the trials of the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder, resulting in real masterminds being let off while police officers executing the killing are sentenced to death instead.
Unfortunate for Najib, he has been incriminated in both these mega scandals, for which neither he nor the government has done anything considered adequate to free Najib from such stains.
Hence, the right thing to do now in accordance with our law is for police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to immediately investigate 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), while an independent panel be set up to make a full probe on the Altantuya case. Neither has been done to date.
So, instead of asking people to declare support to either Mahathir or PM Najib Razak, shouldn’t we all be asking the government to pursue these two courses of action, so as to reassert the rule of law in this country?
Vking: Should Mukhriz follow Mahathir to call for Najib to quit? If Mukhriz is willing to put his political career at stake, then he should go ahead to fight this war.
But Mukhriz need not be as desperate as Mahathir. After all, Mukhriz is still young.
The most important thing now is to maintain the unity of the party. He will have a good future by giving his total commitment now.
The Analyser: I'll let you all into a secret. Mukhriz will do the Malay thing. Nothing. He'll do nothing, say nothing, and soon this whole pantomime will blow over as the media and pundits get distracted by the next contrived crisis they are presented with.
Time after time I have suggested to Malaysia that if they insist on playing Umno's game, they are guaranteed to lose.
If you want to beat Umno, you have to think smart and play smart because they can do neither. You have to totally avoid making criticism, because as soon as you criticise, they have the legislation to screw the opposition.
If you dislike what Umno is doing, you have to come up with a smarter, more voter-friendly alternative, and you will have them by the balls.
Kasparovisdead: Now we shall see how Mahathir will try to dodge the bullet that he has created. My stance is that we stand for the nation, not for the individual.
In this case, Mahathir clearly has a personal vendetta against Najib and he doesn't care at all about the party.
Lamps: Blood is thicker than water. Mukhriz will do the right thing and side with his father, along with singer Siti Nurhaliza and millions of Malaysians. To recap, these are Mahathir’s questions that Najib ignored:
1) Who ordered the Altantuya murder?
2) Where are the 1MDB billions?
3) Where did the PM’s stepson Riza Aziz get millions to buy ultra-expensive properties in US?
4) Why waste money and buy jets when economy is bad?
Onlooker: This practice of the premier selecting the MB really has outlived its usefulness. Witness the fact that he can't do it in the Pakatan Rakyat states, and there has been resistance in the BN states in recent years, either from the assemblymen, the rakyat or the sultan, or even from all three.
The MB should be elected by the state assembly, comprising the men and women elected by the voters. This would give some semblance of power back to the states, which are currently pretty much totally beholden to the federal government.
This is a good opportunity for Mukhriz to show some backbone and stand up for whatever his beliefs are. Otherwise, if he's unceremoniously shown the door by his 'boss', it will serve him right.
RCZ: My only hope is that both sides will kill each other. That would be such sweet victory. And if the Najib camp survives, it won't be for long, as people are not stupid nor are they deaf, dumb and blind sheep, like Umno and BN members.
These sheep carried Najib on their shoulders, for what? If you ask them why, they probably won't know.
Anonymous #70881335: While the political leaders fight their personal wars, who is taking care of the country? If you have not noticed, Malaysia is slipping, and slipping fast.
Isana: I think Mahathir is set on removing Najib and if his son is being taken out during his crusade to oust Najib, Mahathir will consider it a necessary strategic loss.
Mahathir is a battle-hardened realist. He knows that to win a battle, sometime sacrifices have to be made.
Anyway, Mukhriz will have the opportunity to rise again in a new Umno, one without Najib and his lame cousin, Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein.
Angry_Voter: Indeed, it would be naive to think that the grandmaster of political chess did not factor in his son's position in his moves.
Malaysia is Doomed!: Let's hope the son shows some testicular courage and stands up for his dad.
