'Hadi indirectly asks Muslims to vote Umno'

YOURSAY ‘Hadi has gone too far for redemption. PAS is a goner in Pakatan.’

Hadi: 'Haram' to vote for who reject hudud

Ferdtan: What does the statement from PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang means? He is unequivocally rejecting the Pakatan Rakyat's candidate in Permatang Pauh.

PKR had made it very clearly before the last parliamentary sitting they will be rejecting his tabling of a private member’s bill on hudud in Parliament. Thus since he is not supporting Pakatan candidate then he must be supporting Umno’s candidate.

Hadi has gone too far for redemption. PAS is a goner in Pakatan. The progressives in the Islamic party are weak. It will be a walkover for the ulama in the party polls in June.

PKR and DAP must start to strategise a life without PAS in the next election. It is a given fact.

Dingy: Indirectly Hadi asked PAS members as well as all Malays to vote for Umno candidate. This is because all Umno Aduns (state representatives) in Kelantan State Assembly voted for hudud.

Indeed, those who don't agree with Hadi should leave the party and join PasMa, which should register itself as a political party.

Not Smart: Based on Hadi's confirmation that it is 'haram' to vote for a candidate who is against the implementation of hudud, Hadi should quickly merge his party with Umno. After all, the Umno reps in Kelantan are for hudud.

Hadi will be the biggest hypocrite (munafik) if he doesn't do so. How could a Muslim leader preach Islam and the same time do not practice what he preaches?

If he has the guts and truthful to his faith, he should take the lead to call for a PAS-Umno merger.

Disgusted: Hadi wants to hunt with the hounds and run with the hares. If they (PAS) sabotage Pakatan in Permatang Pauh, it will be the straw that breaks the camel's back and will be the end of PAS in Pakatan.

PKR and DAP can go it alone in Pakatan without PAS. It will be good riddance to bad rubbish. They will be better off without the PAS baggage.

I sincerely hope PAS ulama will make a clean sweep in the party polls which will force the moderates to form another party - one with Islamic identity minus the extremism.

Ah-hah!!!: Just when PAS vice-president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man issued orders for Penang PAS to support PKR, Hadi is again up to his old tricks, doing what he personally decides, with no accountability to his party's leaders.

PAS is headed for a showdown, and hopefully, there will be a clear division - Hadi and his ilk going their madcap way, while the others getting down to the urgent business of working towards a better Malaysia. It’s time for PasMa to rise.

Jiminy Qrikert: Permatang Pauh polls will be extremely interesting. MCA and Gerakan are sleeping with Umno which has supported hudud. DAP/PKR are sleeping with PAS which is pushing for hudud.

So, the non-Malays know well enough they cannot vote either side. There goes 29% of the electorate. They will spoil their votes. Now, with Hadi decreeing that it is haram to vote for a party that rejects hudud, those PAS Malays who reject Umno will also sit out this by-election.

Assuming PAS Malays make up 50% of the electorate, there goes another 35% of voters. The turnout for Permatang Pauh will be ridiculously low. Umno will win by default because their voters are the only ones voting.

Once again PKR is being played out by PAS. Don't dump PAS, PKR will lose Permatang Pauh. Dump PAS, PKR will still lose Permatang Pauh. PM Najib Razak is brilliant in using the stupidity of Hadi to kill off Pakatan.

Proarte: It’s time for some soul searching on the part of Pakatan supporters. Why do you support a bunch of opportunists who speak with forked tongues?

Is it because we too are opportunists who don't really stand for anything but are adept at using the language of democracy, equality and justice which we don't we don't really feel strongly about?

Perhaps we are just naive or politically stupid that we allow politicians on both sides of the political divide to run circles round us. We cannot hope for a new paradigm which is based on democracy, truth, justice and good governance if we do not demand those politicians representing us to stick to these values.

Jiminy Qrikert, personally I do not believe the hudud issue will significantly affect support for the PKR candidate. Penang Malays are a different kettle of fish being more educated and politically astute.

They know the hudud issue is a scam to divide the opposition and given the track record of Islamic states in the world, no Malay would want to see Malaysia go the way of Syria or Afghanistan.

I think people will vote tactically in the next election. If anything, I think PAS' treachery with Hadi trying the scupper the chances of the PKR candidate is a good thing as it will sharpen the resolve of Pakatan supporters to reject PAS and make it easier for the moral and political cowards in DAP and PKR to finally have the courage to dump PAS.

In fact, the notion that we need a PAS Mark II in the form of PasMa or the PAS 'Erdogans' is flawed and we must be careful not to be seduced with the idea that they can replace PAS.

The pertinent question is why do we need a PAS equivalent? If PAS rebels give cast iron guarantees that they support secularism, religious freedom and equality and will not have the Islamic state or hudud as part of its political agenda, only then I think they could be considered as a suitable partner.

My worry is Islam is a convenient tool for desperate politicians to use and abuse. PasMa by its very name projects a non-secular and Islamic agenda and I fear it is only a matter of time that political Islam will raise its ugly head to divide the nation and continue to keep the plundering oligarchs in power.

PasMa members should ask themselves why they are reluctant to join DAP or PKR. What are their reservations? How is their political ideology different to that of DAP and PKR?

Anonymous#007: Running a country takes intelligence, diplomacy, strategic thinking, and the will to allow peace and justice to triumph over corruption and discrimination.

When voting, the rakyat have a duty to choose a person based on those traits and not a candidate's religious beliefs.

Pakatan is clear that Malaysia has a secular constitution and a multi-religious and multi-racial citizenry.

If PAS wishes to breach the constitution by forcibly imposing - directly or indirectly - Islamic laws and beliefs on the rakyat, they need to leave Pakatan because Pakatan is clear they will have no part in that crime.

Anonymous_1388029052: In a secular country, it is treason to vote for a candidate who supports hudud. Get rid of such characters. That's why PAS cannot win even one seat in Sabah and Sarawak.

Anonymous_1419577444: Good, now we are clear on where Hadi and gang stand in Permatang Pauh. PKR and DAP should go ahead with their campaigning without Hadi-PAS.

It is okay to lose with dignity rather than to stick with religious men with no principles.
