PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang is in agreement with a Permatang Pauh PAS division official who said it was ' haram ' to vote for a candidate that is against the implementation of hudud.

" Betullah tidak boleh, iya (It's correct that we can't, yes)," said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang told Sinar Online after speaking at a forum on the implementation of hudud in Shah Alam.

He said when asked whether he supported the statement by Permatang Pauh PAS division ulama affairs chief Badrul Abdul Rahman, who said it was haram and sinful to vote for a candidate which was against hudud.

"For Muslims, hudud is a must," said Abdul Hadi, in another curt reply.

The Permatang Pauh by-election will be contested by PKR and Umno come May 6.

PKR had stated that it will not support Abdul Hadi's private members bill that was designed to pave way for the implementation of hudud in Kelantan.

This was because the party has not been informed on the contents of the bill.

In contrast, all 12 of Umno's state assemblypersons supported the Kelantan government's decision to amend its laws which details hudud punishment on March 19.

Despite the obvious signs that he is against PKR's candidacy in Permatang Pauh, Abdul Hadi told Sinar Online that PAS still firmly with the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

"We are in Pakatan and I respect the PAS supporters in Permatang Pauh," he said.

During the forum earlier today, Abdul Hadi was asked who should voters vote for during the Permatang Pauh by-election.

However, Abdul Hadi refused to provide an answer.
