PMTG PAUH Penang PAS Youth made a U-turn today and announced it will help PKR campaign in the Permatang Pauh by-election.
"We have unanimously decided to abide by the central PAS' directive to help in the Permatang Pauh by-election," Penang PAS Youth chief Mohd Yusni Mat Piah told reporters at a press conference in Kepala Batas today.
He said the decision was reached after a meeting with national PAS Youth deputy chief Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi, who is also party president Abdul Hadi Awang's son, last night.
However, Mohd Yusni said, the state Youth wing still wanted PKR Youth to retract alleged insults against Hadi.
"We stand firm that PKR Youth retracts its inflammatory statement against the PAS president," he said.
Penang PAS Youth previously said it would boycott the Permatang Pauh polls unless its state PKR youth counterpart issued an apology for allegedly insulting Hadi by claiming he was involved in a plot to form a unity government with Umno.
The state PKR Youth have yet to issue a statement on the matter.
Still a member of Pakatan
Mohd Yusni said Penang PAS Youth only changed their minds to adhere with a Syura Council edict that the party was still a member of Pakatan.
"The Syura Council stated that PAS is still in Pakatan so in the end we will obey (this edict).
"We shall stand our ground, but at the same time we want to defend the Permatang Pauh seat. We don't want it to slip away from Pakatan," he said.
Mohd Yusni ( right ) added that he will cooperate with the party's disciplinary board should any action be taken against him.
PAS' top leadership had previously urged party rebels in Penang to toe the line and support PKR in the Permatang Pauh by-election.
