'Fight mosquitoes before drawing Palanivel’s blood'

MIC deputy president Dr S Subramanian should focus on tackling the rise of dengue as health minister, instead of jostling to be MIC president, said MIC leader S Balakrishnan.

Balakrishnan said this after MIC president G Palanivel told former president S Samy Vellu to stop meddling in MIC affairs, in the latest episode of the prolonged MIC leadership crisis.

“As the current health minister, he still cannot solve the dengue issue. The number of cases are increasing daily.

“Who is he to talk about leadership weaknesses when he cannot even handle ministry matters?” Balakrishnan asked in a statement.

He said Subramaniam also did not excel in his role as human resources minister prior to the 13th general election, facing problems with foreign domestic workers and minimum wage.

“Why is MIC deputy president Subramaniam so in hurry to become the president of MIC?” he asked.

Balakrishnan claimed that Subramaniam’s recent claim that the leadership in MIC is weak is only to protect Samy Vellu’s interests.

“Is he acting as a proxy for the previous leader Samy Vellu?"

He added that Palanivel should be allowed to run the party and be respected for refusing to follow Samy Vellu’s ways.
