Khairy gets tongue-lashing from Nik Nazmi

Do not just think about your political survival, PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad tells Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

Nik Nazmi's remarks came after Khairy's "repeated reversals" over current issues.

This, therefore, suggested that his only priority appeared to be his political survival as opposed to the interests of the country's youths, he said.

"Trying to track his political positions is liable to leave one dizzy. At one moment, he’s a firebrand for the bangsa (race). At the other, he’s the voice of 'moderation' in Umno," Nik Nazmi ( photo ) pointed out in a statement today.

"He can repeatedly express grave concern and demand answers over the Goods and Services Tax (GST), 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and Tabung Haji imbroglios one day and then suddenly reverse himself and protest his full support for embattled Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak."

Najib yesterday declared that he had the full support of the Umno supreme council and revealed that the council had given its unequivocal endorsement for his party deputy Muhyiddin Yassin.

Najib very open

Khairy when met by reporters yesterday after the supreme council meeting said Najib was very open in accepting the views of the supreme council.

Meanwhile, Nik Nazmi expressed hope that the Youth and Sports Minister's latest comments did not mean that Umno Youth will cease to speak out critically over the abovementioned issues.

"The youth and people of Malaysia need leaders like Khairy to hold their superiors accountable over the questionable actions that our government and public institutions are undertaking with seeming abandon.

"But sadly, we have been let down again and again," he said.

He added that should Khairy had principles, he should take up PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli’s challenge to resign if he could not obtain satisfactory answers over 1MDB’s dealings with Tabung Haji and KWAP.

"And he should disclose whatever explanations the Prime Minister has given him, as well as why he finds these answers satisfactory.

"His failing to do so will show the youth of Malaysia that they have no voice in Putrajaya," Nik Nazmi said.
