The Selangor government will request Putrajaya to waive the collection of GST by the 12 local authorities in the state, said Menteri Besar Azmin Ali.
The Selangor government will request Putrajaya to waive the collection of GST by the 12 local government authorities in the state, said Menteri Besar Azmin Ali.
Azmin said the matter was discussed by the state cabinet today and a decision was made to seek the waiver from Finance Ministry.
For now, the state's Economic Planning Unit will study if the state could absorb the GST.
"As we all know, Selangor has 12 local councils while there are only two in Penang.
"Selangor is a well-developed state... Thus we must study the financial impact if the state has the bear (the cost of GST)," he said.
Azmin was speaking to reporters after launching the book titled 'Khalifah Umar Abdul Aziz' by Ali Muhammad.
Thus far, Penang, Terengganu and Johor have decided to absorb GST imposed on local government services.
Previously, Johor Sultan Ibrahim Ismail has criticised the imposition of GST on government services.
