Table-talk solution to end Najib-Mahathir feud

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad should sit together and iron out their differences, Umno veteran and former Information and Communications Minister Rais Yatim said.

He said it is only proper to bring Najib and Mahathir together for a discussion.

“If we attend to Mahathir's wish (for Najib to resign), then the world built by the former premier would also crumble as every leader has his strengths and weaknesses.

“He (Mahathir) sought Najib's resignation as PM. This has not been agreed by Umno where the party has been unanimous in support of him. What is needed is the Malay approach - not to smear a leader in public until his dignity is affected," Rais ( photo ) was quoted as saying in an interview with Utusan Malaysia .

He added that Najib has already answered on the issues pertaining to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and Tabung Haji.

Hope Dr M would not be slighted

Hoping that Mahathir would not be slighted, Rais said since Mahathir seems to be upfront with his comments, others have to be frank with theirs too.

Prior to this, Mahathir had criticised Najib on various controversial issues, including the PM's pet project 1MDB fund.

Things became more heated after it was revealed that Tabung Haji purchased 1.56 acres from 1MDB at the Tun Razak exchange at RM188.5 million.

The 1MDB purchased the 70-acre land parcel from the government in 2012 for a total price of RM194.1 million.

Mahathir considers the Tabung Haji purchase a bailout of 1MDB, which is alleged to be having problems with servicing its loans.

Earlier, the former premier had warned that BN could lose in the 14th general elections if Najib continues to lead the party.

Mahathir had previously said that he had advised Najib on this matter privately before going public but since then, the PM has not called Mahathir for a discussion.
