PKR: Anwar did not back unity gov't

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli has denied that party de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim agreed to form a unity government with BN.

He was responding to the claim raised by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang yesterday.

"I was given mandate by the party's political bureau to deny that Anwar or any leader ever agreed to the idea of forming a unity government with BN, as mentioned by Hadi," he said.

"We hope that PKR will not be dragged into PAS' internal problems," he added.

Rafizi said PKR's focus right now is to defend the people's benefit and repair the "rotten institutions" under the BN government.

He added that people are burdened with numerous problems such as the goods and services tax (GST) and the 1Malaysia Development Board (1MDB).

"PKR believes now is the weakest point of Umno, and it's the best time to bring change to the people," he said.

Abdul Hadi in a function yesterday claimed that all component parties in the opposition had agreed to form a unity government with BN.

He claimed that Anwar and the former PAS spiritual leader, the late Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, had agreed to the idea.

'We discussed national reconciliation '

PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the party had discussed national reconciliation.

"It wasn't unity government but national reconciliation immediately after election

"We just spoke about parliamentary reforms, this is what  we mean by national reconciliation, in a way that we work for the country, not unity government," she added.

Meanwhile, Lim Guan Eng said DAP was not aware of such a move.

"Hadi's revelation of a national unity government in 2009 in the midst of the Perak constitutional crisis, which he is still keen, shows how far he is in aligning himself with Umno and BN.

"Hadi said that the idea of a national unity government was approved by Anwar and Nik Aziz.

"This is a surprising new revelation because DAP leaders were never informed of a national unity government with Umno and BN in 2009," he added in a statement.

Lim, who is DAP secretary-general, said Hadi may be keen on the idea but the proposed national unity government must have excluded DAP completely.
