Now Hadi’s challenger wants end to attacks

Though vying to topple Abdul Hadi Awang as president in the PAS elections next week, presidential candidate Ahmad Awang sees no need for nasty attacks on the PAS leader.

Referring to the vitriol against Hadi from PAS’ partner DAP, Ahmad said such mudslinging does nobody any good.

“Attack after attack against Hadi will not bring political advantage to any Pakatan Rakyat party. Stop them.

“If the aim is to correct him, then this is not the way. He is still a human being, who has a dignity to protect.

“Stop the politics of hate and emotions and bring forth wisdom and communication,” Ahmad said in a statement.

Ahmad is the latest PAS leader to call on DAP to halt the attacks , after its veteran Lim Kit Siang ( photo ) and his son and secretary-general Lim Guan Eng accused Hadi and his followers of campaigning against Pakatan in favour of a unity government with Umno .

Kit Siang said the June 4 PAS leadership elections could determine Pakatan’s future, and if a faction favouring a unity government wins, it could spell the end of Pakatan .

However, PAS leaders have repeatedly denied aiming for a unity government while Hadi said yesterday said he is still with Pakatan .

In his statement, Ahmad said Pakatan is the most viable alternative to BN, but it cannot succeed if its leaders do not talk to one another.

“All leaders must be more mature and careful in managing this crisis. Discussions with the aim of resolving this crisis must be prioritised above firing potshots against one another in cyberspace.

“Politics is dynamic in nature. If one discussion does not solve it, a second discussion might,” Ahmad added.
