DAP's continuous attacks on PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has backfired, and is helping him and his ulama faction to win in the party election next week, said a PAS leader.

 

The attacks are actually drawing support from the grassroots for the president and his faction, Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz (PAS-Pasir Mas) said.

 

"The more DAP attacks Hadi, the more sympathy for the president," Nik Abduh declared when met at Parliament.

 

Hadi, who has helmed the party for 12 years, is being challenged by former Perak commissioner Ahmad Awang.

 

Nik Abduh ( photo ), the son of late PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz, will contest the post of PAS Youth chief in the party elections next Tuesday.

 

Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Gelang Patah) declined to comment when asked whether his party’s stance was aiding the ulama faction in the party polls.

 

"We do not interfere (in the PAS election)," the DAP parliamentary leader said.

 

Lim had warned the opposition coalition may just have two weeks to live but made no specific mention of what could trigger Pakatan's sudden demise.

Provoking PAS

He appeared to be alluding to the PAS party polls on June 4 which will determine whether pro or anti-Pakatan forces will dominate the party.

"Time is running out for Pakatan Rakyat. In two weeks’ time, Pakatan Rakyat may cease to exist," he said.

He warned that alleged plotters of a so-called 'unity government' between PAS and Umno may succeed after being blocked by the late PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat since 2008.

"Many have read his [Lim's ( photo) ] statement as an attempt to provoke PAS to leave Pakatan," said Nik Abduh.

"As for me, I am confident that PAS will not resort to such action at this moment," he said.

Nik Abduh urged the Pakatan leadership to stop raising the issues of hudud and the BN-PAS unity government, issues which he said were deliberately raised to split Pakatan.

"The president has denied repeatedly that the a unity government between BN and PAS doesn't exist," he said.

He, however, admitted that an older unity government which involved all the parties from both  sides of the divide had once been mooted.

As for hudud law implementation, Nik Abduh said it was about justice and not cruelty.

"The continuous attack from DAP isn't based on facts.”
