Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein has confirmed that a special meeting held at Majestic Hotel in Kuala Lumpur last night was regarding 1MDB.
"It is logical that the opportunity was given to us (to be briefed about the firm)," he told reporters after a post-cabinet meeting at the Defence Ministry.
"We are not economic ministers, we wanted to know what is going on.
"The cabinet simply cannot make a decision just after an hour discussion over an issue which transpired for years, and which is not under my control as a defence minister," Hishammuddin added.
The Umno vice-president revealed that Second Finance Minister Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah ( photo ) informed the ministers of a "good plan" to restructure the debt-laden firm.
According to Hishammuddin, the plan was "doable".
He said the ministers were even told how soon the government will be able to fix the 1MDB issue, but he refused to divulge any further information.
When met after the three-hour meeting which ended at midnight, Husni had told StarTV that the discussion did not involve 1MDB.
However, a source close to Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin told Malaysiakini that the meeting was centred around the problems in the firm and how to overcome them.
