Whistleblower website Sarawak Report has denied a group’s claim that former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad was acquainted with recently retired journalist Andrew Brown.

Citizens for Accountable Governance Malaysia (CAGM) had claimed that Mahathir was acquainted with Brown, who is the husband of Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle Brown.

The mysterious newly-formed group - which surfaced just weeks ago as Prime Minister Najib Razak received calls to step down - also claimed that Brown worked for Électricité de France (EDF), which had alleged sourced Mahathir's help to expand their energy business in Asia.

"Andrew Brown worked as the director of communications for EDF Energy UK, as opposed to EDF (Électricité de France) and never had any involvement in the group's global operations.

"Nor has he ever met Mahathir," Sarawak Report said yesterday.

Brown is brother to former UK prime minister Gordon Brown.

CAGM has recently claimed that Mahathir embezzled public funds during his 22-year tenure as prime minister, and the group could even afford a purported RM1 million as a reward for potential whistleblowers against the former PM.

Mahathir however does not appear to be taking CAGM's claims seriously.

"I wish everybody good luck. I hope they will earn more millions .

"I'm sure there must be quite a number of things they can find, and if they make money, why not?" he quipped on Tuesday.
