Kit Siang: No common policy, means no Pakatan
Pakatan Rakyat cannot exist without a common policy framework or a system to form a consensus, said DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang.
In a press release today, Lim said Malaysians who voted for Pakatan in the last general election expected the coalition to be steadfast in their commitment to work together.
"In fact, it is because of the serious violations of the common policy framework and the consensus operational principle that national Pakatan leadership council had effectively ceased to function for the past year.
"It is no exaggeration to say that there will be no Pakatan if there is no common policy framework and a consensus operational principle," said Lim.
Lim was responding to the plea by PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim who urged PAS to reconsider its move to cut ties with DAP.
Anwar, through his lawyer N Surendran, said PAS should take heed of the fact that the public expects Pakatan to be a viable alternative to BN.
Blood on PAS' hands
Lim said that although he appreciated Anwar's show of concern from behind bars, it must be pointed out that there are no signs that PAS is willing to concede.
"The new PAS leadership killed Pakatan at the PAS Muktamar. There are no signs of any effort to resuscitate Pakatan by reaffirming the common policy framework and consensus operational principle," he said.
During the PAS Muktamar over the weekend, a motion proposing that the party's central committee and syura council to cut ties with DAP was passed without debate.
Similar motioned were passed by PAS' youth wing and Dewan Ulama wing.
Although some PAS leaders said the matter was not final, observers note that the matter was essentially fait accompli because the Dewan Ulama leaders control the syura council.
