Six PAS members who were unsuccessful in the recent party elections are to be be co-opted into the party's central committee.

A formal announcement will be made on June 21, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man told reporters after attending the inaugural meeting of the 2015-2018 central committee.

The party will have to appoint a secretary-general and information chief as part of the six to be co-opted. It will also pick the heads of 24 party bureaux, as well as the heads of the PAS state chapters.

"Yes, its always like that. Positions will be given to those who did not win in the muktamar," Tuan Ibrahim ( photo ) told reporters.

Asked if the delay in the official announcement was to ensure that the appointments offered were accepted, Tuan Ibrahim said this was not the case.

"No. This is the normal procedure," he said.

Face saving measure?

However, it has been confirmed that co-opted Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki is among the six.

When approached by reporters, Mohd Zuhdi offered a contradictory view on the delay.

"If they don't accept the appointment offered, we will appoint someone else.

"Thus, the official announcement is on June 21," he said.

Several central committee members confirmed that the meeting was shorter than usual, as PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had to catch a flight to Japan.

Thus, there was no other topic on the agenda, including the PAS muktamar decision to cut ties with DAP.

Earlier today, several PAS leaders said the matter must first be deliberated by the syura council before it is brought to the central committee.

Business as usual

Tuan Ibrahim said he did not know when the syura council would convene.

For now, PAS members who were appointed to government positions in Penang and Selangor must go on with business as usual, he said.

"It is a Pakatan Rakyat state government," said Tuan Ibrahim, implying that PAS members have to fulfil their mandate given by voters.

PAS has about 1,100 members holding state government-appointed positions in Penang and about 5,000 such positions in Selangor.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has said that it was untenable for PAS members to hold Penang government positions because he led the state government and is the DAP secretary-general.
