There should be no issue about non-Muslims helping to build mosques, according to PAS Kota Bahru MP Takiyuddin Hassan.

During his term as a Kelantan exco member, Takiyuddin said, there had been no issue either when non-Muslims contributed to mosques.

 

“When we build mosques, many non-Muslims give contributions, so it’s nothing. To us it is not an issue. It is okay.

“It is normal to want to give contributions to mosques and charities. Anyone can contribute,” Takiyuddin told reporters today when met at the Parliament complex.

 

He was asked to respond to Kelantan Umno chief Mustapa Mohamed’s ( photo ) claim yesterday than DAP is building mosques in Kelantan and that this amounted to an insult to Muslims in Malaysia.

 

“It is an attempt to deny the federal government's efforts of building over 24,000 mosques and surau nationwide,” Bernama quoted him as saying.

IGP urged to probe

Mohd Ariff Sabri Abdul Aziz (DAP-Raub) claimed it has become common practice for DAP to assist in the construction and maintenance of mosques and surau.

"DAP representatives provide all kinds of help to all walks of life and this has become a common practice including to help fixing up surau and mosques.

"We do not attach any conditions," he told a press conference at Parliament's lobby.

Such efforts went unknown as they weren't reported by the mainstream media, Ariff ( photo ) said, adding Kelantan Umno didn't offer the same help and as such they now felt threatened by DAP.

Lim Lip Eng (DAP-Segambut) urged the Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar to investigate Mustapa for possible criminal wrongdoing.

"The police can still take action even if nobody lodges a report against him," he said.

He wants the police to probe if the Kelantan Umno chief had caused racial tension and disharmony with his statement.

 

Keeping mum on PasMa

Meanwhile, Takiyuddin was also asked to comment on Persatuan Ummah Sejahtera Malaysia’s (PasMa) plans to form a new political party to replace PAS.

 

He declined to comment saying that it would be premature to respond before the new party was formed.

 

However, he pointed out that there is a provision in the PAS constitution that if its members join another political party, their membership in PAS is automatically void.

 

Separately, PAS youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Mat appears unmoved by the possible challenge that PasMa poses to his party.

 

“I am confident that they won’t have a big impact on PAS, although the impact won’t be zero because many PasMa supporters are from PAS,” he told reporters.
