Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad today gave the new PAS ulama leadership 100 days from the muktamar 'to change' or some of its progressive faction members would form a new party which will lean towards Pakatan Rakyat.

Khalid was formerly one of PAS Selangor deputy commissioners and he said his ultimatum follows what PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah had said in that the new PAS leadership be given 100 days to prove themselves.

"We will give the new leadership the time to return back to the leadership styles of the late (PAS presidents) Fadzil Noor and Nik Aziz Nik Mat.

"However, signs show from the statements made by the president that they are not returning to that," he noted.

Asked whether 100 days was sufficient, Khalid said the time period was what was proposed by Nik Amar ( photo ) and not him.

He warned that the rakyat may not give PAS the 100 days as deemed necessary by Mohd Amar.

He added that if by the end of Ramadhan by which 40 days would have already passed and there are no signs of the party improving, then the decision (to form) a new party could probably be quicker.

Khalid said PAS at present was showing signs or already leaning towards Umno and ‎this was truly upsetting the opposition coalition.

Secular group would not join PAS

The PAS lawmaker said it is not that the progressives were chasing party positions but only that they wanted to continue with their just struggle against BN.

He said if PAS remains 'syadid' or maintains the present hard stand of not befriending or cooperating with others, then it was ample proof that a new Islamist party was needed.

“PAS had lost its character where originally it had strong relations and was able to accept criticisms,” he said.

Khalid also criticised party president Abdul Hadi Awang's labelling of ‎the Erdogan (progressives) group as secular.

"If we are secular then we would not join PAS.

“It is a mass contradiction. Why would a secular join an Islamist party?” he asked on Hadi's ( photo ) logic.

On Selangor government's position, Khalid agreed with PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail who said that Pakatan Rakyat as a formal coalition is no more, but a coalition government is still intact in Penang and Selangor.

"We are thankful to Allah SWT for the spirit and cooperation of Pakatan Rakyat in Selangor under the leadership of Menteri Besar Azmin Ali, and in the leadership of the Penang Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng  (which) continues," she had said.

As for the PAS-led Kelantan government, Wan Azizah said PKR will continue to support the leadership of its Menteri Besar Ahmad Yaakob.

However, she expressed disappointment at PAS and DAP for the breakup of the seven-year-old Pakatan.
