Dr M checkmated now that Umno polls put off
YOURSAY ‘With Umno firmly behind its president, Mahathir can’t unseat him.’
Umno polls postponed to make party 'stronger'
Ferdtan:
From what I understand, there must be special circumstances to postpone the party elections.
Legally, according to Umno’s constitution and if the supreme council approves it, there is nothing its members can do about it.
Usually in the past, the decision was due to imminent general election been called; but it was never like this when there are splits in the party.
However, I am sure Umno, like MCA, would have a clause in its constitution allowing for an extraordinary general meeting if enough of party members (or divisions?) call for it.
The question is whether former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad still has influence in the party. Checkmate Mahathir, it’s time to realise your time is over, this time for good.
Indeed, the move was a flash of brilliance by Umno president Najib Razak. That is why we say it is not easy to topple an incumbent, especially if he controls the supreme council.
Say what you want, call him by whatever names, he will turn around to tell his detractors, so what? He is still president of Umno and by default, the prime minister.
In reality, this is great news for the opposition. Hopefully Pakatan 2.0 will be ready by the next general election. This will be the best chance for the opposition to topple BN as Najib has string of scandals, such as 1MBD.
On top of that, Najib as premier is the person responsible for the implement of the hateful Goods and Services Tax (GST) causing so much hardship to all Malaysians, rich and poor.
When GE14 comes, the opposition will not lack issues to exploit.
Godam Style: This confirms my reading that the state election in Sarawak would be held in late November this year and for the rest of the states, it would be middle of next year.
If the outcome of Sarawak election is good then the general election could be even earlier.
This is in view that the global and Malaysian economy may turn for the worse and the opposition parties are now in shambles, plus the need to silence Mahathir as soon as possible.
This is in line with Sun Tzu's ‘Art of War’.
Prudent: In 18 months, Najib is likely to take over the Selangor government with its RM3.5 billion reserves to fund GE14, plus there is an even chance that Mahathir would be out of the way.
So the only way for Mahathir to get rid of Najib is to go for a vote of no confidence in Parliament, backed by the opposition. But with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang on Umno's side, this is doubtful.
Besides, with Hadi's support, the federal constitution can be amended to legitimise whatever gerrymandering the EC comes up with for GE14. So time is on Najib's side.
Even when GE14 is called, its results are already predetermined as it will be based on Umno's rules. So now how? We can only hope that God Almighty will grant our prayers.
The Analyser: Haven't I been saying all along that the backroom boys are right behind Najib because he is their plaything to do with what they like.
And while they are behind him, neither Mahathir nor anyone else can unseat the PM. But naive people will grasp onto any straw and let themselves be sucked in by Mahathir's play-acting.
Clearwater: I cannot fathom how postponing party elections for 18 months can make the party stronger, but then I am not an Umno member.
However, surely even the grassroots can figure out that no party election means the current hopeless PM and his useless bunch can cling on to power in the interim.
Caripasal: Umno members who are unhappy about the decision should lodge a complaint with the Registrar of Societies (ROS).
Although the decision made is accordance with Umno constitution, it has certainly violated the rules and regulations set by ROS.
ROS should take action to deregister Umno, similar to the way they had treated DAP and MIC.
Thana55: It defies logic. The current leadership has made them weak. The solution is to keep the same incompetent bunch to make them stronger. The Umno members cannot be any dumber to believe this logic.
Transformasi: This is postponing the inevitable. Is it hoping that the rakyat will die of boredom, despair and frustration? Then there will be nobody left to lynch him and his wife from the tallest lamppost in Putrajaya.
Negarawan: Eventually, Najib will be forced to resign from Umno before the end of the 18-month period. The other factions in Umno realise that if Najib is allowed to continue, Umno will be decimated in the next GE.
Odin Tajué: As typical Malaysians would say, no lah. Umno polls got postponed to keep Najib as PM one. Like dat can make sure 1MDB secrets covered. True or not?
