The Selangor chapters of PKR and DAP held a formal discussion on the current political situation in the state today, but no decision has been made yet.

After the meeting at the Selangor Menteri Besar's office today, Selangor DAP head Tony Pua ( photo ) was tight-lipped on details as further discussions will be held after the month of Ramadan.

"It was a constructive discussion, (an) exchange of ideas and on the status of the Selangor state government and the current crisis.

"After a 30-minute discussion, we understand each other's position better and we will meet again after Hari Raya," he said.

PKR's delegation included deputy-president Azmin Ali and women's wing head Zuraida Kamaruddin. Azmin is also the Selangor PKR head and Selangor menteri besar.

Questions on the tenability of the Selangor government arose after ties between PAS and DAP frayed. However, both parties have pledged their support for Azmin to remain as menteri besar.

PKR is unable to form a government in Selangor without the support of both PAS and DAP.

The meeting today, apart from Pua, saw DAP's MP Gobind Singh Deo and state assemblypersons Hannah Yeoh, Teng Chang Khim and Ean Yong in attendance.

Selangor PKR, apart from Azmin and Zuraida, was represented by MPs Xavier Jayakumar, Hee Loy Sian and N Surendran.

Realignment of state excos not discussed

Meanwhile, asked about Selangor DAP's support for Azmin, Pua said: "We never had any problem with Azmin. The issue was never about Azmin being the menteri besar."

He also confirmed that "all sort of ideas" were proposed in today's meeting when asked whether a new opposition coalition was discussed.

However, when asked to give a gist of the alternatives, Pua declined to do so.

"It's better to keep the discussion together with the menteri besar," he said.

He also denied that they had dicussed the realignment of state executive council posts.

"Nothing to do... (The meeting was) not about the exco posts. It's about the government," he said.

Meanwhile, met by reporters later, Azmin ( photo ) again stressed that the meeting was a normal one and that he always met opposition party leaders including those from the DAP.

"For me, it's a normal meeting discussing several issues," he said.

Asked whether they had discussed the political crisis plaguing the state, Azmin sang a different tune from Pua when he said there was "no crisis".

"There's no crisis in Selangor. As I have given my assurance, the Selangor government is stable and we focus all our energy to develop Selangor based on policies which have been decided upon previously," he said.

More demand for treated water

Meanwhile, on a separate matter, Azmin assured that the state had no problem of raw water shortage.

He however admitted that the state had problems of insufficient treated water as the capacity of the Selangor water treatment plant has reached its maximum.

"But we have taken proactive steps, and this includes the Mitigation Project 2, where we will shift treated water from the north of Selangor to the south as there is more demand for treated water in the south of the state," he said.

Azmin said the state had also decided that there will be no water rationing and had asked water concessionaire Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) to supply treated water to consumers.

"We have also built water tanks at areas where water disruptions normally occur so that in the long run, we will be able to solve this problem," he said.
