Prison told to produce Anwar in Syariah Court

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim is set to appear at the Kuala Lumpur Syariah Court on July 27 for his qazaf (bearing false witness) appeal case.
This is to enable him to read out his ‘wakallah’ (appointment) of lawyers for the case.
Anwar's lawyer, Kamar Ainiah Kamaruzaman, said the court had finally issued an order to produce (OTP) under Section 109 of the Syariah Court Civil Procedure (Federal Territories) Act to the Sungai Buloh Prison for Anwar to be present on the abovementioned date.
"We actually suggested this earlier, but the court only granted it now," she told reporters today.
Meanwhile, lawyer Roslizam Rahim, representing Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom (photo), said Anwar was supposed to reply to their affidavit today, but did not do so.
"(As such), the court had instructed him to give a response on our application, whether to reply to our affidavit or to make any objection. The matter has been fixed for August 28," he said.
Anwar's lawyer, Rafie Mohd Shafie, however said they have yet to decide on whether they would reply to the affidavit on August 28 or otherwise.
"We don't know yet because we might strike out their case," he said.
Jamil and two others filed an application in May to strike out Anwar's pending qazaf appeals.
Among the reasons the application cited was that the Federal Court had already found Anwar guilty in the Sodomy II case.
Anwar had applied for the Syariah Court of Appeal to review the Syariah High Court decision on April 2010, which struck out his qazaf application.
