There is no need for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to take leave pending investigations into allegations that nearly US$700 million was transferred into his account, said Umno Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

However, he said that Najib should take leave if he was charged in court.

At present, said Khairy, investigators have not brought up any proof that would implicate Najib thus the question of going on leave does not arise.

"There have been cases where leaders had to take a break when there were on going cases in court.

"But in this case, it is still under investigation. Let's not be premature in our decisions, " he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today.

Last Friday, the Wall Street Journal had alleged that Malaysian investigators had traced the money in Najib's account with AmIslamic Bank Bhd.

Najib had denied the report and the WSJ had stood by its report. Najib has not confirmed that he will sue the newspaper, which is highly influential.

Nothing incriminating yet

A special task force comprising police, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Bank Negara personnel are investigating the allegation.

Documents from three companies implicated in the WSJ report have been seized.

Similarly, on the attorney-general's announcement that investigators are in possession of documents pertaining to the allegations, Khairy said this was no cause to jump to conclusions.

"He only said he got the document, not what the document contains. Let's not be too premature in coming to the conclusion.

"I believe once the investigation is complete the taskforce will announce the outcome," he said.
