The International Anti Corruption Conference (IACC) scheduled in September here, which Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is attending, is in line with the government’s objective to raise the level of public awareness on the issues and challenges in fighting corruption.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Paul Low, said the conference, scheduled to be held in Putrajaya, will provide a neutral and conducive space for analysis and debate on new approaches applied by anti-corruption practitioners worldwide.

Low said the government recognises the need to improve governance in support of the country's economic transformation to a high income model and a developed nation by 2020.

“The IACC is the world’s premier global forum for bringing together heads of state, civil society, the private sector and other interest groups in tackling the increasingly sophisticated challenges posed by corruption,” he said.

He said the bi-annual conference is organised by Transparency International.

Malaysia will be hosting the 16th edition of this conference in Putrajaya from Sept 2nd to 4th, this year, Low said in a statement.

Yesterday, it was reported that Najib will be speaking at the conference which has the theme “Ending Impunity: People, Integrity and Action”.

Low said in tangent with the Economic Transformation Program (ETP) and public perception, the government - through the Government Transformation Program (GTP) - has been taking substantive measures to improve its National Key Results Areas (NKRA) to deal with eradicating corruption and improve governance.

“Malaysia aspires to improve on its 2014 Corruption Perception Index (CPI) score of 52 and Country Ranking of 50 (out of 175 countries) and to be among the top 30 countries in the CPI ranking by 2020,” he said.

Low hopes with Malaysia hosting the conference, it would learn from experts and implement solution that will help the country achieve its national goals.

He added the IACC will also provide an ideal opportunity for public administrators, corporate leaders, and civil society representatives to engage with international experts in this important field.
