"In the last elections, we saw there were those who left their own parties and became pro-Barisan Nasional, so we may be pro-Pakatan Rakyat or opposition," Penang GHB pro-tem committee chief Mujahid Yusof Rawa said at a press conference in Butterworth today.
He was asked why GHB leaders who were still PAS members do not quit the party when they could no longer contribute to it.
The Parit Buntar MP said GHB leaders have been pressured to quit the party in light of the new movement which was launched three days ago in Kuala Lumpur.
Mujahid ( photo ) said he could feel the pressure coming from PAS Perak members who have made their intentions known through the media.
"They did not officially write but exchanged words about the matter in the press," said the former PAS committee member.
"There are many ways to do it. You have a choice whether to declare and say you are out of the party.
"The party central leadership may issue you a show cause letter pending disciplinary action," he explained.
Alternatively, one can wait to be dropped automatically for being a member of another political party as per the PAS constitution, Mujahid added.
"However, GHB is yet to be a political party, so the party needs to find another reason to justify why it wants us to leave," he stressed.
Ceramah in Penang on Aug 8
In the press conference today, Major Zaidi Ahmad ( photo ), who rose to fame after challenging the credibility of the indelible ink during the 2013 national polls, was present as part of the pro-tem committee.
Others include Penang City councillor Mohd Yusof Noor, Penang Persatuan Ummah Sejahtera Malaysia (Pasma) leaders like Zulkliflee Lazim as state deputy chief I and Zainulfaqar Yaacob as state information chief.
PAS sole assemblyman from Permatang Pasir Salleh Man was absent.
Mujahid also announced that GHB will be organising a ceramah in Penang on Aug 8, after the movement holds a mega-gathering in Perlis on Sunday.
GHB was formed following the defeat of 18 progressive PAS leaders at the party's internal polls in early June.
This came after PAS delegates at their 61st muktamar in Selangor decided to sever ties with DAP, prompting the latter to pronounce Pakatan dead.
