Raub Australian Gold Mining Sdn Bhd (RAGM) has announced that it expects to resume gold mining operations in Bukit Koman, Pahang in July.

In a filing to the London Stock Exchange on June 1, its parent company Peninsular Gold Limited said RAGM has been given the all clear by the environmental authorities.

"The company is now pleased to announce that the environmental authorities have acknowledged that RAGM was at all times in compliance with the conditions given for RAGM's environmental approval.

"This acknowledgement confirms that there are no amended or additional requirements relating to RAGM's environmental approval and the location of its tailings dams," said the company.

The goldmine has been in operation since 2007 and has triggered outcry from Bukit Koman residents because goldmining operations involved the use of cyanide, which is highly toxic.

Among others, residents are concerned that the tailings could lead to the contamination of groundwater.

In December last year, Peninsular Gold Limited told the London Stock Exchange that RAGM's operations has been suspended pending talks with the environmental authorities.

The authorities had requested changes relating to the location of tailing storage facilities, which would require significant changes to RAGM's tailing management plan.

RAGM has filed lawsuits against a number of residents for defaming them. Another suit was filed against Malaysiakini for defamatory news reports.
