Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB) deputy chairperson Salahuddin Ayub said his movement was open to PAS’ urging for a united opposition despite the animosity between them.

He said this in response to PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man’s urging for the opposition to find common ground and minimise their differences amid scandals plaguing the nation.

“Representing Harapan Baru, I welcome the his proposal which is along the lines of what he had been voicing for,” Salahuddin said in a statement today.

Harapan was formed by a group of progressive PAS leaders as a prelude to a new political party after they were ousted from the leadership by the conservative faction.

The group intends to replace PAS in a new opposition coalition after the conservative leadership in PAS formally severed ties with DAP, leading to the demise of Pakatan Rakyat.

Salahuddin said Harapan was prepared to engage with any parties to address national interest.

“Harapan Baru is always open to working with any quarters to ensure that the rakyat’s struggle can be carried out well,” he said.

He added that the group had been meeting several NGOs, political parties and other influential individuals and institution in a bid to make Pakatan Rakyat 2.0 a reality.
