Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin's friendly banter against Liverpool FC fans and PAS has irked football aficionados.

"Supporting Liverpool is like supporting PAS. They never win," said Khairy at a recent public forum, in reference to the fact that Liverpool FC has never won an English Premier League (EPL) title.

Khairy ( photo ) is well-known for supporting Manchester United and has a habit of making fun of other EPL clubs.

However, popular Malay singer Faizal Tahir found it too much and retorted that supporting Manchester United was like supporting BN.

"Seriously KJ? Bad, bad, bad joke. Stupid. Totally lost respect for this guy. I am a through and through Liverpool fan. I bleed Liverpool red. I support them through thick and thin.

"I acknowledge Man United as a great team and I respect them for being one of the biggest clubs in the world. They have great players, play great football and have a great history.

"But this? Utter stupidity. I'm sure other Man United fans are not as dumb as this," wrote Faizal on his Instagram account.

Although Faizal's retort was without a punchline, it was likely that he was making fun of the fact that Manchester United, despite its star-studded team, has not won an EPL league title since 2011.

Similarly, BN's electoral performance had been suffering since 2008.

Apart from Khairy, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is also well-known supporter of Manchester United.

The team opened the 2015-2016 EPL season with 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, after the Spur's left back Kyle Walker scored an own goal.
