Police have refused to acknowledge a notice submitted by Bersih for its planned overnight rally on Aug 29 and 30.

Maria had submitted the notice for Bersih 4 at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters at 5.15pm with her lawyers.

After a discussion with Dang Wangi district police headquarters chief Zainol Samah, Maria said the former refused to acknowledge her notice.

She said this was because police insisted that she provide more information and documents first.

"I had submitted a notice to the police today but Zainol refused to accept it until I complete the application by filling a few forms and documents for a 'review' to get permission," Maria told journalists.

Under Section 9(1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, an organiser must notify the officer in charge of the police district where the rally will be held 10 days before it happens.

It makes no mention about the need for review or permission.
