Rafizi holds special prayers to ‘save M’sia’

Following the footsteps of Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli also held special prayers to 'save Malaysia'.

Rafizi said the prayers were held in support of MACC so that the commission could continue its investigation into the RM2.6 billion ‘donation’ deposited in Najib's private bank accounts.

Although the special prayers received lukewarm response in wake of a heavy downpour in Kuala Lumpur last night, about 50 of the locals gathered at the Ampang Jaya field to listen to speeches after the event.

Rafizi stressed importance of Malaysians showing their opposition to Najib in the ways they are comfortable with.

“People who like to protest can go to rallies, those who like to pray can hold special prayers and in Johor, there are artists who did murals.

"He (Najib) won't resign until the people showed their displeasure against his administration," he told the press at the sidelines after the special prayers in Pandan Indah.

Najib also hosted a prayer session at the prime minister’s residence in Putrajaya last night to ‘save Malaysia’ as the country is facing a political crisis and uncertain economic times.

The function, held at his official residence in Putrajaya, was attended by Umno division leaders.

Rafizi said it was good for Umno and Najib to hold the prayers as God in his infinite wisdom will help the country to dispose cruel leadership.

"I welcomed it. And the people can evaluate the performance of Najib and we ask them to pray to save Malaysia and for the country not to be ruled by corrupt leaders," he said.

Eerily similar to 1998

In his speech, Rafizi said what happened last month when Najib sacked his deputy, Muhyiddin Yassin, was eerily similar to the political upheaval in 1998.

He said in 1998, ousted deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim was against then premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad's decision to get state-owned Petronas to bail out his son's shipping company in the wake of an economic crisis and falling ringgit.

"Anwar was summoned by Mahathir who said if the former did not resign he would be sacked. Anwar said if he was sacked, he would fight Mahathir and he is still fighting 16 years later and was twice imprisonment.

"That is why there is no other choice but to replace Umno," he said.

He also threw his support behind embattled MACC officers, adding that people's outrage could stop Najib and his men from doing as they please.

"That is why we held the special prayers. So that honest civil servants would not be afraid to do their work.

“Remember, the transfer of two MACC directors was cancelled a few days later because the people expressed their anger at the government," he said.
