The Menteri Besar of Pahang and the 12 members of its exco will declare their assets as a commitment to combat corruption.

Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob said they will do it as soon as possible, according to the Bernama today, after it is discussed in the exco meeting tomorrow.

Previously, the Selangor and Penang governments had declared the assets of their menteri besar and chief minister respectively, as well as their exco members.

In contrast to Pahang however, the Selangor and Penang governments made the declaration public, whereas the Pahang government would only be making its declaration to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“We will be declaring the assets that we have and perhaps from time to time when we have addition or disposal of our wealth, we will report it to the MACC.

“I myself will be disclosing my financial statements and accounts to MACC and this would take two to three weeks.

“Therefore I hope MACC would give time to the state government (members) to declare their respective assets as part of its commitment to combat graft,” he was quoted as saying.

He reportedly told reporters this after a briefing and dialogue between the Pahang MACC and MPs, assemblypersons, and senators today.

Also present at the function was MACC deputy commissioner Mustafar Ali, who reportedly lauded the move.

“This shows that transparency and integrity exists in the state government and this can be expanded to become more comprehensive,” Bernama quoted him as saying.
