Cops likely pressured to act on Bersih, says PKR
Police is likely receiving external pressure to act on Bersih, said PKR vice president Tian Chua.
This is because the 34-hour rally held on Saturday and Sunday was peaceful and had "full cooperation from the police", he said.
"We as the participants and organisers applaud the police for improving how they handled a gathering this large.
"Unfortunately, there is some pressure from outside of the police that is forcing the police to call in and investigate these seven Bersih committee members under Section 120 and 124 of the Penal Code," he told reporters outside of Bukit Aman Police Headquarters today.
Bersih chairperson, Maria Chin Abdullah and six other organising committee members questioned by police on the rally.
The other six questioned were were Sarajun Hoda Abdul Hassan, Masjaliza Hamzah, Farhana Abdul Halim, Fadiah Nadwa Fikri, Mandeep Singh and activist Adam Adli Abdul Halim.
Malaysiakini estimates about 100,000 people attended Bersih 4 at its peak, although organisers claim the figure is more than double.
