The Bersih rally, held last weekend, had indeed hurt the feelings of Umno, its executive secretary Ab Rauf Yusoh said today.

At the Masjid Tanah Umno division meeting today, Ab Rauf said the Bersih rally was without 'adab dan susila' (manners and morals).

"It hurt the feelings of Umno members, it insulted Umno leaders.

"Therefore, Masjid Tanah will rise up to defend our dignity," said Ab Rauf who is the division's chief.

Commenting on the incident where Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang picture's was stomped, Ab Rauf also said that they will not keep quiet over such incidents.

Ab Rauf added that they will be together with Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who had officiated today's event, in facing such situations.

"We will not keep quiet. We will follow the instructions given by the party's leadership.

"If they want us to defend, then Masjid Tanah will rise up in defence," he said.

He also commented on Bersih chief Maria Chin Abdullah ( photo ), PKR lawmaker Sim Tze Sin, Bersih secretariat member Mandeep Singh and Jingga 13 chief Faris Musa, who will be charged under the Peaceful Assembly Act over the Kita Lawan rally next week.

"On Tuesday, those who were involved with that rally will be charged.

"We ask that the government charge these people (for the Bersih rally too)," he said.

Although sex blogger Alvin Tan was not involved in the Bersih rally, Ab Rauf took the opportunity to mention the notorious figure, who he said had insulted Islam and the country's royalty.

"These people invade our minds through the new media," he said.

The Bersih rally, which saw tens of thousands of participants and held over the last weekend ended peacefully without major untoward incidents.

Police however had called in the rally's organisers for questioning, soon after the rally concluded.
