The defamation suit by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor against Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming will be heard by the High Court in Kuala Lumpur from May 16 to 19 and from May 23-26, 2016.

The suit was filed after Nga made a Facebook posting with Rosmah's picture at a table, with Najib and some ministers, and claimed that the PM's wife was taking part in a cabinet meeting.

The dates were fixed‎ today by Judicial Commissioner Siti Khadijah Syed Hassan Badjenid.

Najib and Rosmah also filed another application on the matter yesterday, for the case to be disposed of on a point of law, without going‎ into trial.

Nga (photo) has also filed an application to strike out the suit and the case management‎ for the matter has been fixed for Oct 23.

Najib and Rosmah filed the suit on June 11 in which they claimed Nga posted a picture of them on his Facebook page last March 29.

They claimed the picture was of them with several cabinet ministers and high-ranking Wisma Putra officials at a hotel room in China and not at a cabinet meeting as alleged by Nga.

The couple claimed the Taiping MP had published defamatory words against them on his Facebook page implying that Najib had abused his power and mandate as PM for his personal and wife's personal interests.

'Selfish' implication

Rosmah in the suit claimed the words implied she was a selfish woman who was only concerned about herself.

Najib and Rosmah are seeking general, aggravated and exemplary damages, interests, costs and other relief deemed fit by the court.

They were represented by lawyer Choo Shi Jin who is from the firm of Hafarizam, Wan Aisha and Mubarak.
