Alam Flora has collected about 18,000 kg of separated solid waste within 10 days of the implementation of the solid waste separation ruling.
Alam Flora Sdn Bhd chief executive officer, Mohd Zain Hassan said 5,800kg were collected in Kuala Lumpur, 1,300 kg in Putrajaya and 11,239kg in Pahang.
"Even though the figure may seem small, but it is a good start," he told reporters after giving a briefing on the new ruling to Bangsar Baru residents today.
He said residents in areas under the supervision of Alam Flora showed a high level of commitment to ensure the success of the ruling.
On Sept 1, households in seven states, namely the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, Pahang, Johor, Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Perlis and Kedah began the compulsory separation of solid waste.
A maximum compound of up to RM1,000 can be imposed on residents refusing to implement the solid waste separation under the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act 2007 (Act 672), effective Jan 1, 2016.
