The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should be included as one of the law enforcement agencies regulated by the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC).
EAIC chairperson Yaacob Mohd Sam said under the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission Act 2009 (Act 700), EAIC's role was to accept complaints from the public and carry out investigations on misconduct of enforcement officers and agencies.
"We feel the proposal is logical and reasonable. Even though MACC has their own committee to monitor them, any cases of death of detainees or persons under investigation while in MACC custody are outside their jurisdiction and
investigations will be carried out by the police under the Criminal Procedure Code," he told reporters after launching the EAIC Dialogue with 21 East Coast Zone Enforcement Agencies in Kuala Lumpur today.
Yaacob said since its inception in 2011, EAIC had received 1,816 complaints and of the total, 132 investigations had been carried out.
"On average, about 90 per cent of the investigated complaints have showed results and some of the complaints have not been investigated because they were unfounded," he said.
