Attending the discussions and subsequent unveiling of the new opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan courted a show-cause letter for Umno man Saifuddin Abdullah.

And the former deputy minister has until Oct 6 to respond.

"Tengah tunggu ilham (waiting for inspiration)," he told Malaysiakini when quizzed on his response.

Saifuddin revealed that the letter dated Sept 22 was delivered by hand to the Global Movement of Moderates (GMM) office on the morning of Sept 28.

Saifuddin is the chief executive officer of GMM.

"I have 14 days from the date (Sept 22) to reply. The letter was signed by party secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor," he said in a text message.

Tengku Adnan had claimed Saifuddin was wrong to attend the event even in the capacity of a NGO leader.

"We will investigate the matter. If he did indeed attend the opposition's roundtable talks, we will take action against him," he had said.

However, former Umno disciplinary board chairperson Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas reportedly dismissed the claim that Saifuddin had committed an offence.

"If it's just a matter of him attending an event by the opposition, I don't think that's a problem.

“It's normal, unless he actively condemned Umno, then that's another matter," he was quoted as saying by The Malaysian Insider.

Saifuddin, however, declined to comment on Megat's statement.

"I can't comment on Megat's statement. I have a lot of respect for him.

"Besides, ths is not the first time that he seems to see disciplinary issues quite differently from Ku Nan (Tengku Adnan)," he said.
