Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) said it did not direct its members to take back what they had given to PAS when they were members of the Islamist party,

Amanah Youth deputy chief Faiz Fadzil said PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man’s remarks on this might have to do with several incidents involving former PAS members.

“That’s normal. Maybe there were members who allowed PAS to use their building or other facilities belonging to them, but cancelled this favour after they changed their (political) preferences.

“It is the individual’s decision, nothing to do with Amanah,” he told Malaysiakini when met at a charity screening of the film ‘Polis Evo’ last night.

Tuan Ibrahim on Saturday cautioned PKR of the possibility of facing a similar split like PAS, following the “hasty” formation of the opposition pact Pakatan Harapan.

PKR central committee members reportedly sent a memorandum to the PKR leadership questioning the formation of Pakatan Harapan, which consists of DAP, PKR and Amanah.

Tuan Ibrahim (photo) said PAS will not cooperate with Pakatan Harapan due to DAP’s anti-PAS stance and the presence of Amanah – a PAS splinter party – in the coalition.

He accused Amanah of trying to poach PAS members and said Amanah members are seizing control of the use of PAS kindergarten (Pasti) premises and offices.

Faiz, however, stressed that Amanah issued no directive of that sort.

“Don’t blame Amanah. The decision (to take back properties and facilities) were made in individual capacities,” he said.

He added that Tuan Ibrahim’s warning that PKR could face a split like PAS due to “outside forces” is misplaced.

PKR is stronger now, he said, after Tumpat MP and former PAS secretary-general Kamaruddin Jaafar and former Selangor menteri besar Muhammad Muhd Taib defected from PAS to PKR.

“They are very experienced in politics and will not split PKR,” he said.

Failure in leadership

In a statement later, Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub said other parties should conduct self-reflection instead of blaming the formation of Pakatan Harapan for their internal disputes.

"Blaming Pakatan Harapan for internal disputes without self-reflection and trying to improve, is something very backward and shows failure in providing leadership at time of flux," he said.

The former PAS vice president said Amanah is willing to engage with any opposition party on national interests.

Amanah was formed by members of a faction in PAS who were defeated in the PAS Muktamar in June.
