The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is probing an Umno lawmaker for purportedly abusing his position in a government-linked company (GLC) for personal gain.

A source familiar with the matter said he was arrested, but an MACC source later clarified the MP is just under investigation.

"We have not arrested the MP, but the investigation relating to the government-linked company is ongoing," the MACC source said.

It is understood that the MP was called in for questioning today.

The MP is believed to be a director at the GLC, which is a Felda subsidiary.

Previously, the MACC probed Felda over the purchase of a multi-million ringgit boutique hotel in London.

In a written parliamentary reply, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Paul Low however later said the graftbuster had cleared Felda's management of alleged embezzlement over Felda Investment Corp’s (FIC) payment of RM538 million for the Grand Plaza Kensington Hotel (photo).

On March 7, Malaysiakini reported that Felda Group chairperson Mohd Isa Abdul Samad’s son had been summoned by the graftbuster to record a statement over the hotel purchase.

Up until March, MACC had quizzed 23 people over the purchase of another hotel worth RM40 million in Port Dickson, including the CEO of a Felda subsidiary and a businessperson.

The investigation was conducted under Section 16 (a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009, which criminalises the asking and receiving of corrupt gratifications.

The CEO was arrested on March 1 and was remanded until March 10 while the businessman was arrested on Feb 26 and released on March 7.
